ABOUT ABOUT

SPECIAL EVENT: Fundraiser, Guest Hosts, and Two Shows!

Classic Album Sundays is the world’s most popular listening experience and Kansas City is now part of this worldwide series.  Classic Album Sundays provides an immersive experience where you will not only hear the story behind the album but will also hear it in a way you never have before on world class hi-fi equipment.

February is a very special event for Classic Album Sundays Kansas City as we will be featuring the landmark Miles Davis album "Kind of Blue".  Our special guest hosts will be local Jazz, Blues, and all-around music experts Chuck Haddix and Teddy Dibble.  All ticket sales from this event will go to support the Coda Jazz Fund.

Miles Davis "Kind of Blue"
After endorsing the rhythm & blues inflected hard bop early in his career, by the late Fifties trumpeter Miles Davis was moving toward a different style of playing without chords and using scales as the harmonic framework. It sounded like a simpler style of playing (even though it was difficult to play). This was first exhibited on the title track of his “Milestones” album in 1958 but it was on his 1959 album, “Kind of Blue”, that Davis totally gave himself over to modal jazz. Featuring the all star line up of Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, “Kind of Blue” has become one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time and helped changed the course of jazz forever.

Sure to be hugely popular event with customers and crew alike, demand is already so high that we scheduled two shows, one at Noon and one at 3:00pm.  Please make sure you get your tickets early!

Join us for Sunday lunch, order a pizza, maybe a beer, and listen to music that either inspired or was relevant to this classic LP, then the lights go down, the volume goes up and we play the featured album from beginning to end on vinyl over a world-class sound system. You won’t believe what you can hear!

The Greater Kansas City Community Foundation acknowledged the establishment of the Coda Jazz Fund on January 24, 2002 as a charitable fund to provide financial assistance for the funeral and burial expenses of deceased career jazz musicians and vocalists.

Because the proceeds for this event are going to support the Coda Jazz Fund, we will not be accepting any passes for this show, but they will still be good for other shows in the future.
